It's Easy to See the Advantages of Vision Benefits

Vision and eye health problems are the second most prevalent health problem in the U.S., affecting more than 120 million people, with an estimated 11 million Americans having uncorrected vision problems, according to a report from the Vision Council of America. The same report indicates that nearly 800,000 work-related eye injuries occur each year, 90% of which are preventable. And, nearly 90% of workers who use a computer for three or more hours a day suffer eyestrain.

LIFE Foundation-Sponsored Study Shows Americans' Real Risk of Disability

According to a new study, Americans are slightly less likely to suffer a long-term disability than they were in the 1970s and 1980s, yet those who become disabled will likely stay disabled for a longer period of time.  This is one of the main findings from a study released in May 2007 by the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) entitled, “The Real Risk of Disability in the United States.”  The research, conducted by the global consulting firm Milliman Inc., was designed to provide insights into disability risks based on gender, age, occupation and disability type.

Take Steps to Control the Cost of Prescription Drug Noncompliance

Over the past several decades prescription drugs have taken on greater importance in health care treatment. New drugs, when introduced, may provide therapies for previously untreatable conditions, or may supplement or replace more invasive interventions. However, the success of any prescription drug regimen relies on the patient, to fill the prescription and take the medication correctly. The rate of prescription drug compliance or adherence—the extent to which patients correctly take medications as prescribed by their doctors—is disturbingly low, taking a toll on patients’ health and on health care costs.
